World Book Day

Everyone has enjoyed a busy book week, the highlight was on World Book Day when children and staff dressed up as their favourite book character, with the theme of ‘stories around the world’. The day started with a well attended breakfast for children and parents. There was delicious food from around the world and lots of time for everyone to enjoy books together.

Children enjoyed books and story activities throughout the week, including special worships where all staff read to the children. There was also a ‘Reading Relay’ as the teachers ran around the school to read books in every class in under half an hour!

We have had lots of fabulous entries for our Parents Writing Competition from all around the world: Granada, Bangladesh, Lithuania, Iran, India, Ivory Coast and Romania. Many thanks to those parents that took part, their stories have been celebrated and displayed in the hall.

Reading Relay

During ‘Book Week’, class teachers  swapped classes and spent time reading with each age group for 2 minutes.

Year One enjoyed listening to the story ‘ Jamela’s Dress’.

Book Donation from Orbis
We were very excited to receive six boxes full of books from a company called Orbis who very kindly donated a whole range of new books to the school! It is fantastic to receive new books to refresh and add to the library. Miss Baxter could barely contain herself and had to refrain from starting to read all the new  titles! It is wonderful to see children in the library eagerly searching for new books that they have not yet read. Thank you Orbis.

Remember  – reading with your child or to your child at any age (yes even Year 6) for 10 minutes every day makes a huge difference to their development and confidence.
